Why this road is closed

This diversionary route that sat-nav sends you on when the A31 is blocked is no good!

The road further on across the forest was altered a few years ago to a single track road with “passing places”.

Sat-nav tries to squeeze 4 lanes of opposing two-way traffic both ways along this single track road. The road gets blocked and traffic cannot move. Drivers and passengers are then stuck in their cars for hours at a time with nowhere to go on the open heath land. This is bad enough as it is, but it is hard to imagine the consequences should a forest fire sweep across the heath.

This is why the road has been closed.
